World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Now more than ever, older adults in our community are at a greater risk of social isolation. That’s why on Monday, 15 June 2020 World Elder Awareness Day (WEAAD), we are raising awareness of this important issue by displaying PURPLE flowers throughout Perth and we encourage you do the same.

Purple represents wisdom and each flower represents a thought provoking presentation of an older person’s story or experience. Leading up to WEAAD, we will be posting creative ideas on our FB page for you to produce paper, ribbon or crocheted purple flowers- like the ones displayed magnificently in our Purple Road Project. Start thinking how you will display your Purple Flower of Support on 15 June.

If you or an older person you know is experiencing difficulty in ageing positively and would like to discuss their concerns about the risk of elder abuse, please consider contacting the following services for information and advice:

Advocare Elder Abuse Hotline 1300 724 679 Northern Suburbs Community Legal Centre - Older People’s Rights Service on 9440 1663.
